I will use this space to report on the days events from the Walden University Residency. This could be my last Residency – at least I will have my residency requirements completed after this one.

Day 1: Wednesday, September 24, 2008
——————————————
I will use this space to report on the days events from the Walden University Residency. This could be my last Residency – at least I will have my residency requirements completed after this one.
4:00pm I checked in after battling an infestation of yellow buses while driving to the meting place – the Lloyd Center Doubletree hotel. Its a 17 mile commute from my home. Tomorrows rush hour commute will certainly take longer than the 30 minutes that it took tonight.
4:30 – 5:30 Found my way to the orientation meeting for the Milestone 4 group. Carl Eckrode, a peer at Mt Hood Community College was there. Appeartently 21 people are registered in our Milestone 4 group yet only 17 are present. The scheduled leader, Elaine Spalding, PhD., is ill and Dale Swoboda, PhD., has replaced her. Dr. Swoboda seems a bit flustered and absent minded. The people at the table that I sit at are not very talkative. I wish that I had sat at the table that Carl is at – much more lively. We are dismised very early and Dr. Swoboda has a very relaxed attitude with us and understands that as Milestone 4 people we propably have the motivation and drive to seek out the resources that we need and makes lite of the time we may be spending together at these morning sessions.
I look through the meeting guide and see only one educational technology faculty member. His name is Peter and he is from Siberia. I will need to connect with him.
5:30-6:30 Carl introduces me to Mathew, a milestone 4 management student. We stand in the horsd’ovures line and eventually sit at a table together. Cour Carrier would not have had nice things to say about the arrangement of the tables where the food was. Because they were against a wall only one side of the table could be used.
This table is has a much friendlier company.
6:45 – 7:15 The welcome meeting presentation is ordinary.
7:30 – 9:30 The room where the School of Education has its colloquia is too small for the size of group. The first half has Laura Knight-Lynn, Phd., introducing people including Joe Ann Hinrichs, EdD., Associate Dean, and Peter Serdyulov, DPS, PhD. His research intertests include Educational tecvhnology aplications, online teaching ands learning, adult learning, instructional methodology, accelerated and intensive learning. I have to talk with him!
We break up into concentration speciality groups. There are too many Ed Tech. people to sit arount one table; about 20. Wow! Several of us sit at a table, introduce our selves and start talking tech. I share the “How to Write a Lot” book that I have with me. several people are interested enough to write down the title. Plaigarism Web sites and services are discussed. I also mention jott.com. I ask if we want to get together again Friday or Saturday night and there is a lot of interest. busines cards are shared. I have to write my cell phone number on the back of mine. I met a person who lives in Corbett. We talk a little while longer.
I have to stand in a long line to get a parking voucher that I think saves me $3 on parking. I meet and talk to Henery for a minute. I see Carl and wish him a good night as I leave. There’s Hernry again. Tomorrow is a very busy day so must be off to bed. I must meet Peter tomorrow.

Day 2: Thursday, September 25, 2008

Residency Day 2
I have been so busy that I am now in catch-up mode. Today (I’m talking about Thursday) was busy. I felt that I had to drive out to MHCC so that I could continue my repare of the class server and photocopy syllabus and handouts fort class tonight. I believe that I was working on this by 6:00am. At 8:00am I left to drive the 17 miles to the Residency. I was soooo lucky that traffic was not backed up as bad as it usually is. I get to my Milestone 4 meeting right on time. Dr. Swabota reminds us that we will be cutting out early because he has an appointment that cannot be rescheduled.
After introductions we discuss the disertation process and relative timelines; who is involved, their role, and …
